About the game
The game puts cursor aiming and coordinated touches at the centre of each rally. In the documented September 2026 playtest, your side can use three touches to return the ball, while a block leaves that allowance intact. Players alternate touches except in 1v1, and there is no separate serve rotation to manage. Movement matters as much as aim: jumping carries running momentum, dives need time to recover, and collisions can knock teammates down. Free play lets you recall the ball to your hands and practise before a match.

How to play just volleyball
Build a rally around a receive, a set and an attack. Getting the ball to a teammate in a useful position matters more than trying to score with every touch.
- 1Get under the incoming ballWatch its path and move with WASD toward the landing point. Arriving early gives you time to choose your cursor target.
- 2Receive toward a teammateAim the cursor where your teammate can reach the ball, then use the left mouse button while grounded.
- 3Set up the next touchWhen it is your turn to set, aim toward space your teammate can reach and press E. Outside 1v1, another player must touch the ball between your contacts.
- 4Choose your attack targetJump into position, aim at an open part of the opposing court and use the left mouse button in the air to spike.
just volleyball controls
The September playtest uses different mouse actions on the ground and in the air. Learn those changes alongside cursor aiming before trying to speed up your play.
Movement and grounded actions
Move with WASD. Use the left mouse button to receive, E to set and the right mouse button to dive. Your cursor determines the direction of a touch.
Jumping, spiking and blocking
Hold Space to charge a jump. While airborne, use the left mouse button to spike or the right mouse button to block. A left click during the jump charge cancels that charge.
just volleyball video game mechanics
Touch limits, blocks and cursor direction shape each exchange. These rules describe the September 2026 playtest.
Three touches before returning
Your side has up to three contacts to send the ball across the net. Use that allowance to create a manageable attack.
Alternate between players
One player cannot make consecutive touches in team play. The documented exception is 1v1.
Blocks preserve your allowance
A block does not count toward the three-touch limit. After blocking an incoming attack, your side still has its touches available to recover the ball.
The cursor directs the ball
Touches travel toward your cursor target. Choose the destination before contact, and use a teammate's visible aim to anticipate the next play.
just volleyball tips for better rallies
Many early errors come from committing to movement too soon. Keep your positioning controlled so you have options when the ball changes direction.
Keep your dive available
Walk to reachable balls and save the dive for a difficult recovery. Its button greys out during the cooldown.
Settle before jumping
Running momentum carries into a jump and can send you past the ball. Stop before takeoff while learning your timing.
Give teammates room
Player collisions can cause knockdowns. Spread out and let the nearest teammate handle the ball instead of diving into the same space.
Is just volleyball local multiplayer?
The available playtest guide describes 1v1 and larger team formats. It does not establish whether players can share one device.
Local multiplayer remains unconfirmed
The documented controls and team rules do not confirm shared-screen or split-screen support. Check that feature before planning to play together on one device.
Team play changes your touch options
In team formats, alternate contacts with teammates and leave room for their movement. In 1v1, the restriction on consecutive touches has an exception.

just volleyball questions before your next match
A little practice with serves and jump charges can make your next rally easier to control.
What should I practise in free play?
Start with grounded sets and jump serves. Free play lets you recall the ball to your hands, so you can repeat the same action while adjusting your aim and timing.
Why did my jump go too high?
Holding Space builds jump charge, and a full charge produces a larger leap. Cancel an unwanted charge with the left mouse button.
